You are a Forest of Love

“Do not be afraid to lose that which no longer serves you. You are a forest of love. Let the old growth fall.”   Amelius

I am not a New Year resolution maker – maybe a little oppositional defiant, even with myself !? !  Anyway, its quite likely that many of the New Year resolutions made on 1/1/22 have fallen by the wayside, been forgotten, or given up on – which can lead to feelings of defeat, self-criticism and a bunch of other unhelpful feelings.

I do believe in positive change, with an emphasis on self compassion, and am very drawn to this idea of “losing” things that don’t serve you.  It makes way for identifying things that do, activities, habits and choices you want to move toward.  Drawing toward what you like and love is more positive and productive , and for me, it is easier to relate to.

I also am a tree lover, tree hugger – so the tree metaphor resonates.  In the story of your life, old growth can be released, making way for what is new and possible.  We can honor what has been, and with grace and courage, release it, and nourish the tender new shoots of what we are creating.

Let yourself truly feel what it means to be a “forest of love” – such a powerful, beautiful metaphor. There is so much beauty and wisdom in nature, and this quote from a philosopher/writer from Tuscany in the 3rd Century is wise today.

What old growth will you let fall?
